OLIVER SACKS PROMOTION

A speculative, self-negotiated project to promote the work of renowned neurologist, Oliver Sacks. These illustrations depict the case study of The Disembodied Lady who lost her sense of proprioception. Consequently, she suffered chronic feelings of disembodiment. From left to right:

  1. She lay motionless, a helpless heap; as floppy as a rag doll. She had lost her mooring of identity.

  2. Her eyesight navigates to keep her safe. She must always be vigilant, like a lighthouse keeper. Without vision, her body is ‘lost at sea’.

  3. She could not remember herself; could not even imagine herself. “It’s like something has been scooped right out of me, right at the centre”.
