An illustration for Viridis Magazine’s online article that explores Caylon la Mantia’s debut and award-winning documentary, KELP!, released late last year.

The 30-minute film, co-directed alongside fellow filmmaker Anna Roberts, is available on Youtube and Vimeo and follows Caylon and her crew as they sail along the UK's rugged coastline. They talk to farmers in Cornwall, Wales and Rathlin Island who are spearheading kelp farming as a nature-based solution to climate change whilst supporting coastal communities.

'The World Maritime theme for 2021, "Seafarers: at the core of shipping's future" seeks to increase the visibility of seafarers by drawing attention to the invaluable role they play now and will continue to play in the future'.

The Covid-19 pandemic travel restrictions have hit seafarers hard. Governments around the world have closed borders, ports and airports and imposed restrictions to foreign nationals to limit the spread of the virus. Consequently, tens of thousands of seafarers are unable to join ships or are stranded at sea for far longer than their original contracts. Isolation from family, and language barriers on board, are causing declining mental and physical well-being of many seafarers..

These repatriation difficulties are 'a growing humanitarian and safety crisis'. As such, the United Nations Secretary-General has called on all countries to formally designate seafarers and other marine personnel as 'key workers', to ensure priority vaccination and safe changeovers for crew.

A commission for a company called ViBa. My brief was to illustrate four legendary musicians - John Lennon, George Michael, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie - celebrating together in heaven. The illustration will be used for t-shirts and A2 posters.

For the second volume of Bloom In Doom, released in August, 2020. Decaying food waste produces methane which is one of the most damaging greenhouse gases driving up climate change. We can reduce our food waste by: planning meals before shopping; only buying what we need for those meals during the week; and by freezing fresh produce and leftovers.

A notional editorial for an article in The Guardian about how a woman who took up mushroom foraging to cope with her husband’s sudden death. Long Litt Woon says that she found herself ‘longing to go to those dark-green forests again and again’ and ‘after losing all sense of hope and home, hunting in woodland with other mushroomers’ got her through her grief’.

A speculative editorial for The Telegraph about being stalked. The article focuses on a female who tells her story of being stalked by a male acquaintance during university. I focused on the themes of violence, feeling targeted and hiding from harassment. With symbolism and negative space, I experimented with a pared-down colour palette to create a menacing atmosphere. This use of colour definitely challenged me.

Additives and contaminants in foods formed by high-temperature processing are carcinogenic. Links have been made between carcinogens and damaged or mutated DNA, which can cause health issues problems and a higher risk of death.

The word “Ubuntu” comes from the Zulu and Xhola languages. Roughly translated, it means humanity towards others and the belief in a universal bond of sharing. Driven by an insatiable need to discover, understand and connect, we spend our lives searching for others to share information with. We might be the key to curiosities, or a curiosity to unlock.
